Building Local Cyber Industry Ecosystems: Lessons and Good Practices

CREST International

The effectiveness and scalability of cyber capacity building programs is often hampered by the lack of a robust local ecosystem of cybersecurity service and training providers. Relying on international suppliers is often costly and unsustainable. Yet, local providers may lack maturity, capacity, or resources to support the cyber resilience of key economic sectors and public service delivery on a sustainable basis and at the quality and scale required. Drawing from recent experience from donors, implementers and beneficiaries, we will actively learn:
• How capacity building initiatives have helped local private sector cyber security service and training providers play their part in strengthening countries’ digital foundations?
• How donor-funded initiatives across several countries in Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East have bridged the gap between local cybersecurity companies and regulators and internationally recognized standards?
• What are the practical strategies, tools, and partnerships models that national and local stakeholders have used to build cyber resilience by working with local service providers?
