Ambassador Tadej Rupel is currently holding the position of Slovenian National Coordination for External Aspects of Digitalization, AI and Cybersecurity. Prior to current position he served as an Ambassador of Slovenia to the Court of St James’s (UK) (8/2014 – 8/2020) and as non-residential Ambassador to Ireland. While in London he was also accredited PermRep of Slovenia to the International Maritime Organization. He graduated from Int. Economics at the University of Ljubljana in 1995 and started his work in private sector and academia.
After joining the Slovenian MFA in 2002, he was part of the group negotiating Slovenia’s NATO membership. His first posting abroad was Tel Aviv, followed by 4 years in Washington DC as Political Counsellor (2004-2008). Prior to his appointment as Ambassador to UK, he was Director-General for Bilateral Relations and European Affairs at Slovenian MFA (2012-14) and Head of the Department for Africa, Middle East, Asia (2009-12).
