Liina Areng joined EU CyberNet in 2021 to lead the establishment of LAC4, the world’s first EU-funded regional cyber competence centre, located in the Dominican Republic. Her contributions to the initiative build on her previous work with the Cyber4Dev project, where she served as Consortium Partner Leader, coordinating Estonia’s contribution to the EU’s first global cyber capacity building initiative.
Both of these EU-funded projects were implemented by the Estonian Information System Authority, the national agency responsible for Estonia’s core digital government infrastructure as well as cybersecurity.
Liina has worked in cybersecurity since 2007, including roles as a diplomat in NATO, Adviser at the Estonian Ministry of Defence, and Director of International Relations at the NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence.
She has been awarded the Order of the White Star by the President of Estonia for her contributions to the field.
