Assistant State Secretary / Ambassador Gabriel Luechinger is currently the Head of the International Security Division at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
In 2024, he led the Swiss Task Force for the organization of the Summit on Peace in Ukraine on the Bürgenstock in Switzerland.
From 2018 to 2022, he was the Senior Advisor for International Affairs to Federal Councillor and Minister of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, Mr Guy Parmelin in Bern, Switzerland.
From 2016 to 2018, he was National Secretary General of the Swiss People’s Party.
From 2014 to 2016, he was Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Switzerland in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
From 2010 to 2014, he was Defence Attaché at the Embassy of Switzerland in Cairo, Egypt.
From 2009 to 2010, he was Advisor for Political Affairs to Federal Councillor and Minister of Defence, Mr Ueli Maurer, Bern, Switzerland.
From 2008 to 2009, he was Deputy Chief of the Military Protocol in the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport, Bern, Switzerland.
From 2003 to 2008, he was Legal Advisor in the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport, Bern, Switzerland.
He holds a Master of Law from the University of Bern, Switzerland and a Master of International Studies from the University of Uppsala, Sweden.
In the Swiss Armed Forces, he holds the active rank of a full Colonel.
He is married and has two children.
